Professor Rufus Taiwo Akinyele

VICE CHANCELLOR

Prof. Akinyele joined the Department of History and Strategic Studies, University of Lagos, his alma mater, in January 1990 and attained the full Professorship in 2005. Prior to his current appointment, Professor Akinyele had served as Director of the Centre of African Regional Integration and Border Studies (CARIBS), and the Confucius Institute (CI) at the University of Lagos.

A prolific author of several books and articles in leading academic journals, Professor Akinyele is a globally recognised authority on ethnic minority struggles, internal boundaries and the politics of resource control. He had won numerous awards and recognitions, including membership of the Editorial advisory Board of African Affairs (UK), the world’s oldest and most influential journal of African Studies. Professor Akinyele has also consulted for major international organisations, including UNESCO and the American Humanities Research Council. He is widely travelled across Africa, Europe, North America and Asia as a resource person, consultant and lynchpin of research networks.

Happily married with children, professor Akinyele is a Minister with the Deeper Life Campus Fellowship (DLXF) an arm of the Deeper Christina Life Ministry.

The Chancellor, on behalf of the entire University Community, wishes Professor Akinyele a successful tenure in office.
